Credit Recovery: Social Studies
In order to complete the class, students must pass all mastery tests, post-tests, and the semester test with an 80% or higher. They must also complete an offline activity chosen by the instructor. Students will be given a syllabus which they will need to bring to class every day. This syllabus will act as a score card for students to keep track of their progress in the class.
Starting a Class
(Contemporary Affairs will not have post-tests.)
1. Take all the pre-tests for the course
When first starting a class, students must first complete all the pre-tests. Pre-tests may not be taken out of class and the instructor must know when students are taking them. After completion of each pre-test, students will raise their hands and the instructor will come over to check the score. If students score an 80% or above, they can exempt out of that mastery section of the class.
2. Read the Overview, Glossary, and watch the Videos
For each mastery test, there is are many tools to help students pass their tests. The most important of which being the overview. Students should read through the overview and glossary completely first before attempting a mastery test. They may also take notes from the overview which they can use on the test. Students must also watch the required videos and write a short summary of those videos before taking the test. It is also very helpful for students to go through the study questions. Study questions are a good way to measure the readiness for a mastery and is a good practice tool to help them study and prepare. However, students can not take notes from the study questions. Any notes taken from the study questions will be confiscated by the instructor and may not be used on the test.
3. Take the Mastery Test
When students are ready to start their mastery test, they must first raise their hand and inform the instructor they are ready to take a test. If they are using notes for the test, the notes must first be checked before the student begins. A student's first attempt at a mastery test requires nothing but a short summary of over the required videos. They may opt to take notes, which may be used on the test, but are not required to. However, if they do not score an 80% or higher on their first two attempts, they must take it again, but with reservations. Students taking a mastery for the third time must complete a Plato Study Guide and have it approved by the instructor. have taken notes over every heading in the overview and the instructor must write off on it before the student starts their second attempt. If a student doesn't pass the test on their third attempt, any attempts after that must be under the supervision of the instructor.
Try 1 & 2: Read overview, glossary, and watch required videos. (Written summary of videos required)

Try #3: Complete Plato Study Guide assignment and approved by the instructor. All work may be used on the test.
Try #4: Under supervision of the instructor.
Students may NOT write down answers and questions from any tests they take as they go.
5. Take the Post-Test
After students have completed the mastery tests for their unit, they will also need to take the post-test before moving on to the next unit. Post-tests are similar to taking masteries, but are also very different. Students must still get permission from their instructor to take the test, however, there is not penalty for not passing a test. They must simply retake it until they can score an 80% or more. These tests may also be saved and do not need to be completed in just one sitting. Just like with mastery tests, students may use notes on the test which is advised because these tests are much more challenging than mastery tests.
6. Take the Semester Test
Semester tests are the same process as post-tests, but are much longer and cover content from the entire course. They are taken at the very end of the course when all mastery tests and post-tests have been completed.
7. Do Offline Work
When all tests have been passed, including the semester, students must complete an offline activity. This will be assigned by the instructor with clear instructions of how to complete the project. Completion of the offline assignment is required for completion of the class.

Students can request sheets of paper which are designed to help with this very process. It will help students organize information in a way that is easy to find for the students. It also helps students compartmentalize information and reinforces memory.
If students do not pass a master test on the first or second attempts, they must complete the Plato Study Guide before their third attempt. When this study guide is completed and been written off by the instructor, only then can students take the test again. All notes, prior to tests being taken, must be viewed by the instructor.
